A Word about File-work:

I have received a few inquiries about file-work prices and want to use this space to give you my views towards filework.

I do filework with a series of rat-tail type files. I don't use any sort of automation to do file-work. I personally think that file-work can be overdone and tends to "take-away" from the piece. I prefer to do simple filework with small "filings" in obvious places as accents. For this type of filework, I do not charge extra. But, if you want "complete" or extensive patterns, expect at least $25.00 for the job, depending on the size of the knife.

So basically, if you want some filework, let me know when you order the knife. I'll be glad to do some filework to enhance the piece at no extra charge. But because I do this by hand, if you want the knife covered with filework, I will have to charge for the time that it takes to do so.

Here are some photos of some of the more exotic and rare woods available. This is by no means everything that is available. There are far too many to list them all.

Please note that one side of the wood block is in its' raw state and the other is treated with a wax compound and polished.

Beeswing Eucalyptus from California

Beeswing   Eucalyptus

This wood is very rare. It comes from the eucalyptus tree. It is called beeswing because of its' checkerboard effect. It must be seen up close to get the full feel of it. The checkerboard effect almost seems 3-dimensional. A heavy, semi-dense wood that looks best with a wax treatment to bring out its' beauty.

Buck-eye burl wood from California

California Buckeye burl

A semi-dense wood from California. It is the burl from a particular type of willow tree. It has glorious burls of different sizes and looks best with wax treatments. This wood is semi-rare and somewhat stable.

Curled eucalyptus from California

Eucalyptus curl

This is also pretty rare. From a eucalyptus tree, but instead of the checker, it has a very pronounced and tight curl. A semi-dense wood, but very stable. It looks best with treatments.

Ironwood harvested in the Sonoran desert

Desert Ironwood

One of the finest woods that I have had the pleasure to work with. Very dense, very oily. Needs no treatments to bring out its' luster. Just a soft buff. Colors vary greatly. Getting more rare all of the time. Remarkable wood.

Mesquite wood curl from South Texas

South Texas Mesquite

Very Hard, very dense wood. Looks best with treatments, but takes a nice polish. Very, very stable. Almost as dense as ironwood. Lasts forever.

Thuya burl from Morocco

Thuya burl

A semi-dense wood. Semi hard. From Morroco. Somewhat rare. Very tight and dense eye burls. Needs treatments, but takes a nice polish. Only semi-stable, but can be sealed to become more stable.

Other hardwoods available. There are really to list.
Please call, write or e-mail to inquire about other hardwoods.

If you don't see it, please ask.  I am very flexible on options as I really want you to be completely satisfied with your custom knife!
